Best Buy Labo Display

While doing my routine amiibo check at my local Best Best I was shocked to see the amiibo kiosk had been removed and a Labo display had been set up in its place. All that remained of the amiibo were two lone Falco’s and price tags of amiibo that have been long sold out. It’s been a ghost town in the amiibo department for quite some time, but I didn’t expect Labo to replace it. Are we at the end of an era with amiibo? Will we only see amiibo periodically with select games? What about when Smash comes out this year, will there be another run of all the characters? Did the Animal Crossing amiibo line spell certain doom for future large-scale releases, also how did Tom Nook sell out before Falco? In the recent Nintendo Direct, we received word of a couple amiibo being released and I believe that’s how it’s going to be moving forward, a few select titles throughout the year will get one or two amiibo. As of late, that is all we have seen, Metroid 2 Samus Returns had a two pack of amiibo that shipped simultaneously. Fire Emblem Echos was in the same boat. The Champion amiibo at the end of last year was the last time we saw more than two amiibo released for one game in quite some time. With fewer amiibo being released on a regular basis it opens up valuable shelf space will be used to for selling Labo kits and accessories. They are definitely going to need space for the variety of decorating tape they are selling. How do you feel about Labo moving in on amiibo shelf space? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below.
