How Not To Grow On Twitch

There is not an easy button for organic growth.

I see so many streamers posting in every Facebook group and Discord when they go live and it does nothing. All you are doing is adding to the noise. It like a massive school of fish all swimming to nowhere saying “let’s follow and support each other!” There is no easy to grow, there isn’t a path that doesn’t take work. You will grow an audiece by creating content that adds value to them, this is how you grow your community. If you want an audience of streamers than create content that helps them, don’t just swim with pack hoping they show up. Put work into your content outside of the stream to grow your stream. The grind isn’t it, work smarter. Streaming for 8-12 hours a day will wear you out I know I have been there. Ending a stream with a $ 1.23 in bits, two subs, three new followers and follow count that is lower than when you started is soul crushing. It can take a toll on you and I don’t want to see that. I am writing this so hopefully you can avoid the frustration that I felt through the years. I want to see you thrive while you stream and grow your channel when you’re not even streaming.

Stop wasting time and money with follow for follow and sub for sub.

A large follow count means very little if your chat is empty. Follows are great social proof, but follow for follow only gets you a number not a community member. Having streamer after streamer follow you does nothing for you and sub for sub is just a waste of money. Twitch is the only one coming out ahead on that one. Put that money into targetted ads on Facebook or Instagram to reach the audince that you are after and to grow your brand. If a streamer does show up they will more than likely let your chat know that are about to start their stream with the hopes of steeling your viewers. (More on this later)

  • Follow for follow isn’t actual brand growth put that time and effort into creating content that will add value and grow your communitny.
  • Sub for sub is a waste of money put that money into targeted ads that will grow your brand.

Stop posting everywhere that you are live,no one cares.

Millions of these post go up daily and they do nothing but clog up Facebook groups and Discord servers. I’ve recently tried engaging with people in this groups and the feed moves so fast from everyone posting that they are live. It renders the group useless because no one can actully chat about streaming. If you are going to post that you are live post something that adds value to the person seeing it. Ask a question, give them a reason to interact with the post or possibly the stream. If you start your stream Just Chatting post about the topic and encourage people to come share their opinoins with you in chat.

  • Create content that adds value to the viewer even on your going live posts.
  • Create engaging content in Facebook groups and Discord chats add value whenever possible avoid adding to the noise.

Don’t selfpromote in other streams.

I see this all the time from people just getting started with streaming. No one in the chat needs to know that you are getting ready to stream or how your last stream went. All you are doing is trying to undermine the hard work that streamer has done to grow their audience. This is the exact opposite of adding any kind of value.

  • Don’t self promote in someone else’s stream. Don’t mention you are getting ready to stream or talk about past streams unless the streamers asks.
  • Do reach out to streamers about callaborating and doing multi streams. When doing this find streamers with similar size audeince.

Cutting corners when it comes to stream growth will get you nowhere and leave you frustrated. What did I miss in this post? Let me know in the comments below.
