Taking a peek under the hood of Mario Kart DS
Mario Kart DS ranks up there with the best the series has to offer. I recently stumbled across a video showcasing some of its beta tracks, and I had to share it. I am stoked for any opportunity to take a peek behind the curtain of the games. I love hearing back story or seeing ideas that didn’t make the cut. This video has just that!
Seeing the tracks as only a wireframe is such a trip and it allows us to see the early stages of the track. I would love to how each track unfolds with the designers. You can see a glimpse of the progression with the Pinball Stage. I wonder if that first was too ambitious? I don’t believe those tubes made it to the final game, but it has been a while since I played. It seems like they have been trying to incorporate a little bit of F-Zero into each new Mario Kart and that tube was right out of F-Zero X.
