Nintendo Files N64 Trademark

Nintendo filed N64 trademark and this comes from JapaneseNintendo.com.

Nintendo Co., Ltd. have applied for a N64 trademark in Japan. Purposes include video game program, controller for game machine, joystick for video game machine, TV game machine and more.

More than likely this is nothing more than Nintendo keeping their trademarks up to date. The hope is that it’s tied to the N64 Classic and a possible announcement at E3. With Nintendo selling over a million SNES Classics and re-releasing the NES Classic Nintendo sees the demand for these Classic systems.

If a N64 Classic happens it’s unlikely to get some of its most memorable games. Most will be lost in licensing deals. The N64 also introduced more M rated games and games like Mortal Kombat 2 or Doom we’re missing from the SNES Classic. The first party Nintendo titles could still carry the system, but not having anything from Rare will leave gaping hole in that systems library. It’s unlikely that Star Wars titles like Rogue Squadron or Pod Racer will make the cut either.

Do you think we will see M rated games on a N64 Classic? Would you be interested in the N64 Classic that’s missing some of its best titles? Let me know in the comments.

  1. I honestly think the chances of seeing M rated games are 50/50. M rated games had given this console it’s popularity such as Mortal Kombat and Doom 64. But, parents are definitely going to be apart of this market wanting to introduce their kids to this system they grew up with. I hope they will put games such as Mortal Kombat and Doom 64 on this Mini as they carried the system.
