Resident Evil 7 Cloud Version will available May 24th in Japan. Hopefully there will be news of a North American in the next few days. Resident Evil 7 revitalized the series moving into a first person perspective and returning to its survival horror roots. The series has been going downhill since RE4, but RE7 has great gameplay and some of the most grotesque creatures to date. There’s never a time in RE7 that you feel overpowered in fact, conserving ammo is priority one. Although the game breaks away from the standard Resident Evil formula you will still find classic puzzles scattered throughout the creepy house in the woods.
Cloud Version
The Xbox and PS4 ran this game just fine and some believed we would be seeing this game on the Switch, especially since Capcom had asked Nintendo increase the amount of ram for the Switch. Well, we are seeing this game on the Switch but it’s a cloud version. You won’t be downloading this one you’ll be streaming it. Twenty dollars for six months and if you stop paying you lose your save file. The price seems fair, and it gets Resident Evil 7 on the Switch.
Will this work, do we want this? I am all for getting getting triple A titles on the Switch, but streaming them wasn’t what I had in mind. What speed of internet connection will be needed to make this run smooth? We are talking about a game that relies on twitch movements to land your shots. Will latency be factor? Even if it works perfectly is strictly renting a game a road we want to go down? It can mean more games, so that’s good. It can mean more triple A games, so that’s good. A game like Resident Evil 7 can easily be completed in a six month time frame. But what about games that have a longer time investment? If EA’s Anthem, could be played on the Switch what happens to my save file if I stop paying? It’s pure speculation at this point, but I don’t want to pay to keep a save file while waiting for next piece of content to be released.
This new road concerns me, at first I was excited to hear about the possibility of cloud gaming on the Switch, but now I’m not so sure. I will have more on this later, and we will be discussing it this weeks Nintendo Power Cast, until then I want to hear from you. Will you be playing Resident Evil 7 Cloud Version if it comes state side? What are your thoughts on cloud gaming ? Let me know in the comments below.
