Timesplitters Rights Acquired By THQ Nordic

Get your Monkey Gun ready

In a press releases sent out this morning by THQ Nordic, they announced the acquisition of the video game trilogy Timesplitters.

This is from THQ Nordic

“Timesplitters was largely considered as one of the most influential console games of the early 2000’s. The three game series earned a large and passionate fan base thanks to its unique humour, art style and pop culture references while encouraging customization and modification to give each person their own individual experience.  Timesplitters was originally created by the development studio Free Radical Design that later become Deep Silver Dambuster, part of the THQ Nordic group.”

Free Radical Design was made of up ex-Rare employees. The Timesplitters series nailed the feel of Goldeye and Perfect Dark from the Nintendo 64. On the box of Timesplitters 2 is say “Heir apparent to Goldeye.”

After Rare was acquired by Microsoft hope was lost that the GameCube would get a decent shooter. That hope was restored when Timesplitters 2 was released and now there’s hope once again that we will see Timesplitters on a Nintendo Console. No official announcement has been made but I am hoping for an HD remake of the trilogy. The first game was a PlayStation exclusive so I never played it. These series would be right at home on the Switch in my eyes. I have hoped this series would see the light of day again and now it looks to be a reality.

Are you excited to see Timesplitters being acquired by THQ? Let me know in the comments.
