Who Are You Trying To Reach With Your Stream?

Know your audience to grow your audience

Have you ever had the desire to sit a watch someone play a game? Mediocre gameplay with the occasional, “I shot him first!” This isn’t high-quality entertainment. Why continue watching? This describes a large majority of Twitch streamers, and they will sit a low view counts until they give up. Making it as a streamer isn’t as simple as just sitting and playing a game, and before you come me at with “look at the big streamers that’s all they do!” Remember they have earned that. They built their brand, they put in the work to grow the audience. In some cases, they can’t even keep up with chat. Starting out you have the opposite problem with no one in chat, so let’s change that.

Choose your audience

What is your niche? What community do you want to reach? Are you into BR’s like Fortnite and Warzone? How can you add value to that community and entice them to watch your stream?

  • The answer to these questions has to be in line with your passions. You stream and play your greatest passion and reach like-minded people this will keep you from burning out.
  • Choose what you love rather than what you think my get views and this will help you avoid burnout.
  • I transitioned from Destiny to Nintendo and haven’t looked back.

Create Content That Adds Value

Now that you have chosen your niche it’s time to get to work. Knowing that you have chosen what you are the most passionate about creating should be a joy for you. Get ready for late-night editing sessions after stream so you can create content on other platforms that have greater discoverability.

  • Create content that entertains. If you die in a hilarious way post that and your reaction. We could all you a good laugh. Clip and repost your best jokes or funny moments
  • Post clips of your best plays to showcase some skills. Take it a step further and do some voice over explaining your thought process so your audience can learn from you. Don’t be afraid to do this with bad plays too so your audience can learn from your mistakes with you.
  • Ask questions with your content that encourage engagement. If you want organic reach on social media and Youtube ask questions that will get people talking. If you post videos of bad plays ask for advice on what you should have done differently and I guarantee you get responses.
  • Take inspiration from others in the community what have they done that has worked and how you make it better?
  • Selfless content that adds value is key here and will yield greater results than anything else.

Stay out of your head and believe in yourself

Don’t wait to put out content and grow your brand. Imperfect action is what it’s all about. You don’t go to the gym after getting into shape you go to get into shape. It is ok that you are still learning we all are. If you step in the ring of content creation you can plan on taking a punch but it beats just sitting in-crowd. You may be taking a lot of punches depending on the community you’re looking to reach. I am looking you COD y’all need to learn to play nice.
