Have the great console wars ended?
Xbox and Nintendo released the Minecraft Cross-play trailer that features both consoles being played together.
The trailer shows the Nintendo Switch being played in its various forms along with another gamer playing an Xbox one. Create Together, Explore Together, and Survive Together close out the video with the Xbox being represented by green and Nintendo red in each slide.
The final slide finishes with “Better Together.” This is the kind of forward thinking the industry needs. Gamers are finally able to play on the console they want with the people they want, well almost any console…
What does the future hold?
With Nintendo and Xbox playing so nice could we see other crossovers between the companies? My dream crossover game would be a Perfect Dark game playable on both consoles. I wonder if Master Chief could join the likes of PAC-MAN and Sonic in the roster of Smash? Microsoft has somewhat abandoned consoles exclusives by releases on games on PC as well. It makes me wonder if we see Microsoft publish other games on other consoles? Banjo Kazooie and other Rare IP’s could be right at home on the Switch. This is pure speculation at this point, but I could see Microsoft benefiting from greater software sales on more platforms. There’s also the chance that this doesn’t go much further than Minecraft, but the speculation is intriguing.
