Monolith Soft Is Recruiting For Legend Of Zelda

Zelda + Monolith Soft = Yes Please

Monolith Soft tweeted last night that they are recruiting for the Legend of Zelda.

Their last Switch title was Xenoblade Chronicles two that sold over a million copies on the Switch. They are known for putting out some of the best JRPG’s in the last couple of generations and now they are taking the wheel with one of Nintendo’s biggest brands, The Legend of Zelda.

Is a Zelda JRPG in our future?

We have seen Nintendo allowing other companies to use their IP while creating the games they are best known for, i.e. Hyrule Warriors. Will this be the case for Monolith Soft and The Legend of Zelda? I’m all for it to be honest. I feel like Monolith Soft has the ability to tell amazing stories melded with incredible gameplay. I’m all for leveling up Link and learning new moves or traveling with companions that aid him in battle ala Xenoblade Chronicles 2 style. No matter the direction Monolith Soft and The Legend of Zelda will be a great fit together and I can’t wait to hear more.

I've been a Nintendo fan for over 30 years. I love talking about Nintendo games almost as much as I love playing them. I am the host of the Nintendo Power Cast and I stream Nintendo games regularly on Twitch.

  1. This is great news since Monolith Soft has developed some phenomenal games. But it’s not too surprising considering they’ve helped Nintendo on a ton of games. Skyward Sword, New Leaf, Splatoon 2 and even the Breath of the Wild just to name a few. In BotW they worked on the level design, specifically the topography. As much as i’d love for Zelda to dig deeper into more RPG elements, i’m not sure this means much more then them assisting on specific portions of another Nintendo game.

  2. I see this as a move to have an offshoot game, I’m thinking like the Musou games with Fire Emblem and Zelda. But Nintendo has let other developers make Zelda games in the past (Orcale of Seasons/Ages and Minish Cap) with Capcom. I think this is only good for fans of the style of games that Monolith makes and also Zelda games. Do I think that this will be a mainline game. . . No it will be one of the secondary games, but those can be good games too!

  3. I am very excited about more Zelda, whether it is an RPG or something else. It would be great if multiple products are in the works.

I fear that we won’t see this resulting product for at least 2 years, though.

  4. With the success of Breath of the Wild I could definitely see the Zelda franchise going towards a more RPG style. BOTW was kind of in left field compared to the other games, but I spent HOURS playing it.
