Animal Crossing Switch: 10 Things I Want

Animal Crossing Switch Wish List

Animal Crossing will be making its way to the Nintendo Switch this year so that means it’s time for a list of 10 things I want in the new game

1. Larger Customizable Houses

One problem I ran into with New Leaf was a lack of room for decorating. There were so many Nintendo themed items that I wanted to display them all in one room, but it wasn’t possible. In my attempt to display them all it made getting around the room cumbersome. Nook gives us the option to change the outside of the house but I want to customize the inside as well. Being able to create a  large open area for the first floor would be great! I want to be able to dictate where the walls go.

2. More Game Consoles With Playable Games

My favorite feature in Animal Crossing on the GameCube was the classic NES games that you could find and play. Animal Crossing New Leaf tried bringing that back with the inclusion of the 3DS and WiiU, but I want a little more. Those classic systems in the game are great for decoration but being able to play them takes it up a notch. Even just one game from each console would be cool with me. I know that they could be leaving money on the table by putting free games in, but it would be great fan service.

3. Customizable Yard

Animal Crossing has always been about decorating the interior but I want to take things outdoors. Pocket Camp has shown that decorating outside was something the game had been missing. Halfpipes, hammocks, and BBQ, are a must now! I want to see the townspeople enjoying my back yard swimming in my pool or lounging in my chairs. It probably a pipedream but I would love to see something like the halfpipe be a minigame where you could do tricks on your skateboard. Maybe race RC cars around a track or race to the top of a climbing wall. I think greater interaction with more items in the game would be a huge leap forward.

4. Selling Our Wares Needs More Options

One complaint I have always had is how early everything closes. I really hope we see at least one 24 hour vendor that we sell our bugs and fish to after late-night excursion. If the island ends up being the hot spot for beetles and sharks again I really hope there is a vendor that will give us a fair price while we are there. I had to cut my playing time short because of all the vendors being closed. I know I can set the town to Night Owl, but that would leave the opportunity for weeds to grow.

5. Joining KK’s Band

Musical instruments have been a part of Animal Crossing since the first game but they have been nothing more than decoration. What if we could play the instruments like a rhythm game? I would love to get on stage with KK on a Saturday night! Can you imagine having a couple of friends visit and each of you getting behind an instrument in the club and playing along with KK?

6. A Nintendo Theme Park

Animal Crossing New Leaf added the mini-games to the island but this new game needs to expand on that. A Nintendo Theme park packed with multiplayer games would do the trick. A Mario Kart Track that we could race in or a Super Mario ride that has our villagers traversing a Mario themed obstacle course. Don’t forget Metroid and Zelda I know Nintendo could come up with something amazing.

7. More Robust Multiplayer

I touched on it briefly in the last point but I want more to do with my friends in my town. There needs to be a reason for them to come over. Give us mini-games that are not only fun and pull at the nostalgia strings but give high scores to set. I would love to have an arcade cabinet that shows each player’s high score. Reaching the high score in my friend’s town would give them something to do after I had left. Having a pinball machine in my basement would be so much better if it could be played when people are over. The mini-games don’t all have to be video games in a video game, seasonal games would also be great. Let’s have snowball fights in the winter and water balloon or squirt gun fights in the summer.

8. More Furniture And More Decorating Options

I feel that furniture sets could use a refresh. With each iteration of Animal Crossing, it seems like more of the same with a few new sets tossed in. Hopefully, we see more sets and more customizable furniture. I wouldn’t mind seeing the modern set again if I can put my own spin on it. Maybe I want the couch to be sectional or the bed to be a queen or king? The more options we have the more creative we can be.

9. Improved Path Builder

It is time for actual paths! Paths that can be semi-permanent would be so welcomed. I would hope they can be designed with the same detail as current paths. I would love to see the paths have an optional barrier on either side, so I could run without stepping off the path and accidentally running through flowers. This barrier would be minimal and with the simple press of a button, you could hop over if you didn’t feel like taking the path. There were a few areas that couldn’t lay paths but hopefully in Animal Crossing on Switch that won’t be an issue any longer.

10. More Camera Options

The camera in Animal Crossing has always been fixed and I think it is time for more options. I have always wondered what was behind my house? Another option I would love would be first person, it would really change the way we view the game. I wonder if the camera was no longer fixed if first person could be an option? The assets would have to be added anyway so who knows? Walking up to a tree and shaking it or throwing out your fishing pole and catching a red snapper would be crazy in first person.

What Is Missing

These are my top ten wants in Animal Crossing Switch, but what is missing? Let me know in the comments below and they will be read on an upcoming Animal Crossing Podcast/Video.

  1. I think a cool option would be to have a shared town (like Stardew Valley) where people in our great community could play together. While visiting someone’s town is nice, it would be great to start a town with friends.

  2. I would love it if you can have “Camera” options that you can take pictures of birds and environments or bugs kinda like a mini-game or a feature you can do like a museum! And showcase pictures in your home that people can view in the 1st person mode or you can Select it with “A button”. I’d love to see more added to Animal Crossing and just adding to all the features you have, I love this list.

  3. What they added taxes that the villagers had to pay you, and the villagers requested certain things like fixing a road or building a playground. If you didn’t do the things they asked maybe there could be consequences like the villagers disliking you, or less tax money etc.

  4. I would love the developers to hone in on the “creepy” nature some of the characters can take on at certain parts of the game. My idea is a theif mechanic where some of the critters in town can be criminals. They’d steal items from your house and you’d have to figure out who it is and report it, or something along those lines. Maybe you could even risk stealing or vandalizing on your own, but there will be reprocussions if you’re caught.
