The latest rumor to hit reddit is that Retro Studios is working on a Star Fox racing game that would be play similar to Diddy Kong Racing. Here’s what the post says from r/starfox
What Retro Studios is working on is a spinoff based on an existing Nintendo IP that they haven’t worked with before…. Star Fox.
It is actually a racing game. Something like Diddy Kong Racing mixed with F-Zero essentially. But more like F-Zero gameplay. It will have a adventure mode of some kind (think Diddy Kong Racing) and there will be some boss fights and a hub world like it too.
It is called Star Fox Grand Prix.
Star Fox Grand Prix seems like such a strange mix of games, but I wouldn’t put it past Nintendo to release a game like this. If this ends up being true I have some mixed feelings about it, but I’ll give it shot. It’s been a few years since I’ve been able to race as a Mcloud.
James Mcloud, the leader of the Galaxy Dogs, was a racer F-Zero X on the GameCube.
His ship even resembled an Arwing!
Mcloud in F-Zero was nothing more than developers poking fun at each other, but we may see Arwing’s on the track again.
If this rumor ends up being true Star Fox Grand Prix could end up being the game I never knew I needed, or it could crash and burn. At the end of the day I want to know what Retro is working on and get my hands on it, even if it’s a Star Fox racing game. Let me know what you think about this rumor in the comments below.
