Rogue Aces Review

Graphics 9

  • Simple but beautiful stages with variations in the weather, watching lightning strike with the stormy skies was a nice touch
  • Great vehicle models with a decent amount of detail.
  • Explosions, fire, and smoke from damaged vehicles or buildings look excellent.
  • Watching pilots parachute to safety or the all the soldiers on the deck of the ship salute you really help bring the world to life.

Sound 9

  • The sound bullets hitting metal really gives you the sense that you’re hitting something heavy with each shot fired.
  • The plane engine has a nice rumble to it and the sound of the guns on your plane fit really well the time period the game takes place in.
  • The alarms and the whistle of bombs dropping are nice little touches to add some emersion to the experience.
  • Comical dialog like; “Pilot can have your car?” Right after you crash, show that this game doesn’t take itself too seriously.
  • The heavy metal soundtrack helps gets me pumped up to jump in and start blowing stuff up.

Content 9

Three modes available

  • Standard campaign
    • 100 missions and only 3 planes
    • Plenty of power-ups to help along the way
    • Every mode helps level you up which give you more power up options each time you start
  • Veteran Campaign
    • 100 levels three planes and no power-ups
  • Frontline Campaign
    • Capture islands in a race against time.
  • There’s a nice mix of mission’s with dog fighting, taking out bases, blowing up airships as well as ground troops and trains. There’s a decent amount of content in small package

Control 8

  • The left stick controls your plane and the right stick controls your throttle
  • The controls are little tough to get used to at first, but once you get them down they work very well.
  • Plan on dying a few times until you get used it.

Gameplay 8

  • Classic arcade shooter with a modern twist
  • Addicting gameplay that you want to come back to again and again.
  • Gaining levels each time you start out is a nice carrot on the stick to keep you coming back.

Final Score 8.6
