Mario Kart Live Home Circuit Review

Mario Kart Live Turns Your House Into the Track

When I first saw Mario Kart Live I really didn’t expect to be something that would get a lot of use. After going hands-on with the game, I was wrong. There is something highly entertaining about seeing your house with Mario Kart racer all over the place. After letting my wife and daughters play it was nothing but laughs with the question; when are we getting Luigi? The biggest issue this game will run into will be space. Limited space will mean limited track shapes but that didn’t deter from the fun. The AR bring your living space to life with underwater effects or rainy tracks to name a couple. My daughter made that statement “that if felt like we were living out a scene from Honey I Shrunk The Kids.” My other daughter said, “this is how our chihuahua sees everything.” I am currently charging Mario’s Kart as I write this so we can get back to racing.

GamePlay

The gameplay of Mario Kart Live pulls off a sense of speed with an RC car that isn’t moving that fast. The game controls very well, but it’s a little strange at first looking at the screen and not the Kart while racing. You get used to it very quickly and feels similar to flying a drone. Watching Mario grab his hat as uses a mushroom or the sparks and shake that happens if you hit a wall are all such get details that help immerse you in the experience. It’s pretty wild the first time you use a Bullet Bill and it takes control of your Kart.

Score 9/10

This has to be one of the best uses of AR that I have seen yet. Seeing your house from a new perspective while racing Mario Kart is so unique. The details that go into each track are something else and that is part of the draw of this game. It is not only a great AR experience it’s a great game that keeps you coming back for more.
