What If Star Fox Grand Prix Is a Competitive Game [Speculation]

First off we have no idea if Star Fox Grand Prix is real, so all of this is pure speculation. There has been some reputable sources that say it’s real and that’s it’s beautiful. They say it plays more like Ngen Racing than F-Zero

If it is all true I wonder if this could be the fifth pillar in Nintendo’s competitive lineup? I say fifth cause I’m not counting Mario Tennis Aces out just yet. Smash is just around corner, Arms has had decent first go, and Splatoon 2 is still going strong with the World Championships happening at E3. Nintendo has taken more interest in competitive gaming than ever before even setting up a Nintendo VS twitter account for the US and the UK, that constantly tweets out Smash Bros Tournament results. Could Star Fox Grand Prix be the competitive racer that Mario Kart can’t be?

Don’t get me wrong, I’m a huge fan of Mario Kart, but the game would need a major overhaul to become competitive. I hope Mario Kart 9 does that overhaul, but until then maybe Star Fox Grand Prix can fill that void.

The rumor is 4 player races with combat elements. With only four players everyone can start in the same position lined up on the starting line. After that, it would be up to your racing and combat skills to win the race. If the weapon selection is limited to forward guns, bombs (that could be launched forward or backward) balancing could be relatively easy. Throw in a shield that you can use the right time and now it’s a chess match while you fight for first place.

My prediction could be way off, but one can hope. Nintendo has a way of making games work for the casual and hardcore and I’d love to see that be true for this game if it even exists.

Let me know what you think. Am I crazy? Would the game I described be fun for you or too basic? Let me know in the comments.
