Xbox Games On The Nintendo Switch

A Space Marine And A Plumber Walk Into A Bar…

The internet is running rampant with rumors of Xbox Games making their way to the Nintendo Switch. Many industry insiders are reporting that a big announcement is on its way. We know that Xbox plans on announcing the Xbox Live app for the Switch at GDC but apparently, that is not all…

More Xbox Games On More Devices

Rumor has it that Xbox Gamer pass will be available on the Switch. Microsoft has already shown off their xCloud service that will bring Xbox games to mobile devices and tablets, so the Switch would be a great fit. Last year Xbox announced that they had purchased a number of gaming studios which should give the Gamepass even more appeal. I have yet to pull the trigger on the Gamepass but if/when it’s available on the Switch I’ll be first in line. There’s a common phrase among Switch gamers “I wish this game was on the Switch,” and it looks like Xbox could make this a reality. Halo, Sea of Thieves, Forza, and Gears are only a few of the games offered that I wish I could play more and with the portable nature of the Switch that can happen. Seeing games like the Rare Replay on the Switch is a dream come true because so many of those games belong on a Nintendo system.

The Netflix Of Games

The Gamepass is the Netflix of games and if it is available on any mobile device Xbox just became portable without selling any hardware. Xbox seems to be leading the charge to a digital future for gaming and it seems to be the results of poor hardware sales. The Xbox One had a rough start and has never really recovered and I believe we are seeing a pivot to make the company very profitable through software sales. The Xbox One has an estimated 41 million units sold putting it about 47 million behind the PS4 and just barely above the Switch, which is just finishing up its second year. I am not sure if Sony will play ball with Microsoft, but I am sure Microsoft would love to see the Gamepass on the PS4 and rumored PS5. Even without Sony, Gamepass being on mobile, PC and the Switch would give Xbox a worldwide reach that has been lacking since its inception. Gamepass is the Netflix of gaming and will be the frontrunner to moving games to the same place as music and movies. Rest in piece collectors and welcome to the convenience of digital gaming.

GDC Will Bring Answers

If the rumors are true Xbox will announcing Xbox Live on Switch, iOs, and Android at GDC March 18-22. (Variety.com) Having Xbox live alone on the Switch doesn’t make much sense to without Gamepass. Do I really need to check achievements on my Switch or be able to purchase Xbox games or movies from my Switch? There has to be more to it than just Xbox Live. Another question is will you need Xbox live to play these games on Switch, phone or tablet? My guess is that you will need Xbox Live to play multiplayer, but campaigns will still be playable if Gamepass ends up happening. Remember this is speculation at this point, so keep the grain of salt handy. I want to hear from you. Do you think this Gamepass will be on the Nintendo Switch? Let me know in the comments below. I will be talking more about this on the Nintendo Power Cast in the coming weeks. Shoutout to MulehornGaming for bringing this to my attention.
