In a recent Famitsu article the president of the Pokémon Company reconfirmed the date for the new core game(s) and mentioned a few other details. The second half of 2019 is the date given, so the usual late fall release is what I am expecting. The game will feature new Pokémon which leads some people to conclude this will indeed be the beginning of the 8th generation of Pokémon games. Improved image quality was also mentioned during the interview with the game(s) coming to the Nintendo Switch and leaving the low-resolution 2DS behind.
With the announcement of Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee, it seems like the Pokémon Company wants to reassure its hardcore fanbase that the core games are not going anywhere. The excitement of getting an HD Pokémon game isn’t helping with the wait. Hopefully the Let’s Go games can scratch that Pokémon itch while we wait.
