Spotlight on Nintendo Websites – DekuDeals.com
Recommendation by Legolawyer (@legolaw)
Fans of N64 Josh may be interested in amazing Nintendo websites. This time, we are highlighting DekuDeals.com.
If you are like me, you love a good deal. You’re also likely going to be playing a lot of video games over the next several months. While listening to one of my regular podcasts (shout out to Nintendo Pulse), I heard about a great website to find the best deals on Nintendo Switch games – DekuDeals.com. I will list my favorite features below.
Digital and Physical Listings
I buy a mix of physical and digital games, so I am happy to have a resource that tracks Nintendo Switch pricing for both options. Sometimes, knowing which version is cheaper (and how much cheaper) will help me make the decision. If you are only interested in searching for digital or physical games, there is an easy filter option for that.
Price History
One of my frustrations with the Nintendo eShop is that it is hard to navigate and browse for particular games. Adding to that frustration is that game developers are constantly placing games on sale just to keep in prominent view. Many Switch game prices fluctuate. If a game has been on sale before, I need to make a judgment call on whether to buy now or wait for a sale to return.
Enter Deku Deals. Let’s say I am interested in a physical version of Slay the Spire. At the time of this Spotlight, I can see that the physical game is now 19.99 at Target. Is that a good deal? When I research at Deku Deals, I can see that the regular price was 39.99. I can see that the all time low for physical versions was 16.99 at GameStop during December 2019. While the price has been lower, I can buy with confidence from Target knowing that the game has not been that much cheaper.
The Price History was added to Deku Deals six months after the website’s launch and it remains one of the most popular features.
Bang for Your Buck
It is difficult to judge whether a game is worth the price, but Deku Deals has a feature that makes it easier. One sorting of Nintendo Switch games is “Bang for your Buck.” This feature factors in game length, price, review scores, and general replayability. Fans of games like Enter the Gungeon, Stardew Valley, and Breath of the Wild would agree that these types of games belong on the list and are well worth the price.
The Short and Sweet Summary
Deku Deals tracks the best Nintendo game (physical and digital) and hardware prices on the Nintendo eShop and other retailers like Wal-Mart and Target. Deku Deals offers a current list of all games on sale, pricing history, and alerts for game price drops. Deku Deals also provides an easy way to track games I own, research Metacritic scores, search game genres, and estimate game length.
About the Creator
Deku Deals was created by Michael Fairley around the same time as the Nintendo Switch launch in March 2018. Michael is obviously a fan of video games, with his favorite being Zelda Breath of the Wild. Here are some fun facts about Michael:
- Despite creating a video game sales website, he will pay full price for games he has been looking forward to for a long time.
- His ranking of top Nintendo consoles is Switch, N64, and SNES.
- He played his first runthrough of BOTW in tabletop mode; since that time, he plays most games docked with a Pro Controller.
- He is a completionist; he will finish most games he plays (usually to 100%).
- He donates a portion his website proceeds to charity. This includes AbleGamers and Child’s Play.
