Reggie Fils-Aime recently sat down with Waypoint.vice.com and of course, Waluigi in Smash was discussed. Here’s from Reggie:
So, one of the good things about the way we approach E3 is when it’s all said and done we step back. We look at all of the feedback and share with the devs and certainly, Mr. Sakurai will be aware of the groundswell of support that appeared for a Waluigi. And in the end, it’s his decision to make. Just like when we were getting ready to launch the Wii U and 3DS version there was this groundswell asking for Reggie to be a playable character in the game. I mean…
Sakurai is well aware that the some of the community wants Waluigi to graduate from an assist trophy to playable character, Other than Pokémon I don’t believe any other character has transitioned. Could Waluigi be the first? The internet definitely wants that to be the case there’s even a change.org petition.
With the internet make crying out for Waluigi in Smash I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets his own game in the next few years. Maybe he’s forced to team up with Luigi to save Daisy or maybe the “New Super Mario Bros has Mario, Luigi, Wario, and Waluigi as playable characters?
