Could GoldenEye HD Release On The Switch?

GoldenEye On Switch Could Possibly Happen…

(This is pure speculation and hopes nothing has been announced)

Nintendo and Microsoft are in the honeymoon stage of their recent relationship and it got me thinking about GoldenEye coming to the Switch. Back in 2008, Activision was working on an HD port of GoldenEye for the Xbox 360. The game was complete but Nintendo and Xbox couldn’t get the licensing agreement nailed down, and it was scrapped. The HD remake can be seen here thanks to Rare Thief on YouTube.

GoldenEye On Switch, In A Perfect World

The XBLA GoldenEye remake was going to include; high-resolution textures, new multiplayer maps, online multiplayer, and the single-player campaign. All of this would be welcomed! There was also a feature that would make each character the same height, so no more fighting over Oddjob. The game was running at 60 fps and you could toggle between new textures and the old. The source for these details is this Engadget.com article.

GoldenEye HD Should Be A Multiplatform Release

Can you image if Xbox takes the stage at E3 2019 and says “GoldenEye HD out now on Xbox One, PC and Switch?” We know Xbox and Nintendo could make this happen and currently, no publisher has the rights to the IP. Activision gave it up in 2013 and currently, no company has the James Bond license (to kill, I am sorry I couldn’t help myself ). If GoldenEye HD becomes a reality I assume crossplay would be an option and let’s include achievements while we are it. As a recovering achievement junkie, I love seeing them included in all of Microsofts games. Jumping back into the Facility or Library with my friends on Xbox live

RARE Games On Nintendo Again?

Could the newly formed relationship with Nintendo and Xbox be the beginning RARE games back on a Nintendo console? The RARE Replay would be a much-welcomed addition to the Switch library but my concern is the size of a game like that. That would take a large Switch cart or a lot of space on your micro sd card. Even with my concern for space, I would happily welcome the title to the Switch. If they were to update Rare Replay with games like Diddy Kong Racing, Donkey Kong Country, and GoldenEye I would be first in line to fill up my micro sd card.

  1. I would love to have ALL of RAREs games on the Switch! Golden Eye HD with multiplayer? Bring it on!
All things included I would love to see Donkey Kong 64 to get a digital release to switch! But that might be complicated if there may be a N64 mini coming.

  2. This would be great, I want the full Halo 1 Anniversary treatment. Full HD in the remake with the option to see how the game used to be! Utilize the newly available game chat SDK and have voice chat IN THE GAME! Making it cross platform would be the best for the future of the title and multiplayer longevity. If it were to be made I see this game unfortunately costing us at least double what Turok costs, due to all the added costs of licensing. I don’t think that Rare even has much to do with this game anymore, I checked my copy of the 2010 remake and there is no mention of Rare in the copyright. I would like to think that this title is a required game in the much wanted N64 Classic, seeing as it is the 3rd best selling N64 game of all time, but I feel like the only way we would get this is as a standalone game that we will have to pay a decent amount for. The only thing that makes me optimistic about this happening is that Activision in not involved anymore. Activision doesn’t believe in the Switch which makes them both crazy and stupid to not see its potential and also what has happened in last 2 years, only putting 2+1 games out on the Switch (Skylanders, Crash, Diablo) they don’t want to support this great future that Nintendo has lead us to.

  3. I think this makes a lot of sense considering the recent release of another beloved N64 game Turok.

  4. Remastered GoldenEye would be amazing and I would gladly pay full price, but I would like to see Goldeneye receive the Tetris 99 treatment AND be released as cross platform for Xbox Live/Game Pass and Nintendo Switch Online.

  5. Please. Please do this. GoldenEye on Switch would be amazing. Day one purchase.
Though I think the RareReplay would be much more likely. GoldenEye has so many license hoops to jump thru.
