Ready to tear up the track on Mario Kart 8 Deluxe?

Use your rear view mirror often.
Pressing X in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe allows you to see what is going on behind you. Have you ever wasted a Mega Horn on a Red Shell because you thought it was targeting you only to have it hit someone behind you? Taking a quick peek in your rear view means you no longer need to guess who the Red Shell is targeting.
Item Management.
In Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, I will use my minimap and rear view to dictate item management. If I am in first with a decent lead, I will burn through items before double boxes to go for a Mega Horn. If I’m in first or second and the pack is near me, I will hold on to defensive items as I pass through question mark boxes. I may toss a coin with the hope of getting another defensive item, especially if I am not to ten coins. If you dump your items with the pack too close, you may not be able to get your defensive item up in time to block a Shell.
10 Coins are a must.
You want to get to 10 coins as fast as possible so you can go as fast as possible. Plan a coin route for each track. What is the fastest line you can take to get up to 10 coins? You don’t want to give up too much of your line to get coins if possible. Collecting ten coins is one of the essential strategies of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. If you want to win, you need to get to top speed, so collect your coins.
Slipstreaming/Drafting to get ahead of your opponent.
Do you ever have those races where everyone seems to hit you, and you end up in 12th? Getting Mario Karted in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe happens to all of us. If there are other karts in front of you, get right on their tale for a few seconds, and you will receive a boost. Slipstreaming is a great way to gain a few spots without having an item. Also, make sure to run into your opponent during the anti-gravity sections for another small boost.
