Nintendo Switch Ports Vs New Games

Does the Nintendo Switch have too many ports?

Devil May Cry announcement for the Switch, has me thinking about the games on the system. Are there too many ports on the Nintendo Switch? My opinion is no; I’m all for there being a wide range of software on the Switch, old and new. I do wonder about the quality of some of the ports. Final Fantasy 7 has a few enhancements but is it enough? If the alternative is not getting the title than I guess it is. I see one camp that says bring everything to the Switch, and I see the other side that looks at the Switch as only a port machine. Nintendo was ready to ensure the Switch wouldn’t endure the same software drought of the WiiU and that is why we see so many first party ports. Now that 3rd parties know the success of the Switch they want to get on games on the system, but new games take time. Port’s allow 3rd parties to test the waters without a huge commitment, so I get it. My hope is this year at E3 there will be big announcements from 3rd parties and hopefully, more companies collaborating with Nintendo as Ubisoft has.

  1. Yes there’s a lot of ports coming to switch but I don’t think that’s a bad thing at all. If you don’t want them or aren’t interested in them, don’t buy them. I think the ports are great! It helps diversify the library and even though a good bulk of people have probably played them, there’s still plenty of people who haven’t. Not to mention for some of these titles, this is a second shot at success. For myself, there are certain games i’d love to have on the Switch for the portable factor and that alone is worth it to double dip on some of these. #PortitToSwitch

  2. No, I don’t think we are getting to many ports. Keep them coming. There are a lot of last generation games I still want to see ported like Fallout 3 which I’d love to play on the go.

    • Bring on the ports! There are so many great games I would Love to see on the Switch. It would only add to my hope that the Switch can become the “all in one” console. Ports can also be the in between when we are waiting for Animal Crossing Switch, Luigi’s mansion 3, Pokemon Sword and Shield, etc.

  3. We can never have enough ports!
Final fantasy 7 is a great example of a game that many gamers covet, but many actually haven’t played all the way through – Especially this generation of younger gamers.
It also gives a great opportunity to make the older games more palatable by adding the ability to save where you previously couldn’t, being able to skip unnecessary battles, extra lives, etc.
